New signing: Beckham poses with his new release

David Beckham sent the West End into a frenzy on Thursday morning after a book singing in the Piccadilly branch of Waterstones.

The former England captain's appearance left people camping out overnight in an attempt to get their book signed by the Manchester United legend.

Hundreds were in the queue to meet Becks more than two hours before the store was due to open.

The self-titled book has sold 27,000 copies since its release on October 31, according to figures obtained by thebookseller.com.

Beckham, who played for United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in a glittering career, retired at the end of last season.
