David Beckham on his sons getting tattoos: 'Be different, don't have any'

David Beckham may be adorned with several tattoos but that doesn't mean he wants his sons to follow suit.

But despite his wishes, the former soccer star's boys are already thinking of their future body art.

"(The boys) have already said they're having tattoos done," Beckham, 38, said during an interview on " The Jonathan Ross Show," which airs Saturday, reports People. "And I said, 'Well, be different, don't have any tattoos.'"

It's difficult to sway the young Beckhams from the ink since their dad has so many. The father of four -- Brooklyn Joseph, 14, Romeo James, 11, Cruz David, 8, and Harper, 2 -- reportedly got his first tat in 1999 after his eldest son, Brooklyn, was born in 1999. He got his name scribed across his lower back.

Reports indicate that was the start of Beckham's obsession with body art. By 2000 he added a giant guardian angle on his upper back and in 2002 when his second son Romeo was born he included his name above it.

Of course he paid tribute to his wife, Victoria, with her named tattooed in Hindi letters on his left arm. He continued to add more over time including 2005's "Cruz" in honor of his third son. His baby girl, Harper's birth opted for an additional marking on collar bone.

There's no telling exactly how many he has currently but it's almost certain there will be more to come.

Because of his body canvas, his sons aren't trying to hear anything about not getting their own in the future.

"They said, 'No, we're going to have one. We're going to have, 'Mum and Dad,'" he added. "So I can't really say no to that."

While the boys of the family seem to be taking after their father, Harper, 2, is most certainly taking after her fashionista mother.

"(Harper) gets her outfit ready the night before and then she gets up in the morning, we go down to get her ready and she changes her mind," Beckham described.

"Then I'm in the room with Harper trying to pick out outfits and anything which I pick out, which I think looks great, she puts back in," he added. "She's 2 ½!"
