Forget about the Amazon rainforest – here are the 7 reasons you'll actually ...

This man is heading into the Amazon rainforest for our personal viewing pleasure (Picture: Getty)

David Beckham is taking on David Attenborough and trying his hand at a spot of nature reporting as he heads to the Amazon rainforest for a special one-off BBC documentary.

Yep, we were left a little baffled too.

We'd rather expect Attenborough to be tasked with exploring life in the Brazilian habitat but it's Becks on our TV screens for 90 minutes - it really doesn't matter what he's doing.

With three friends, he's travelled 5,000 miles from London to South America to experience the isolated life in the Amazon for a one-off TV special. He'll be camping, cooking and fishing his way through the rainforest - so he's basically signed up to the BBC's version of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, minus the bug-eating and fellow celebrity campers.

But while some of you might not be at all fussed about David exploring the Amazon, here are seven reasons you'd be a fool to give it a miss:

1. David Beckham in his underwear

Want to see Becks in his kecks? Of course you do. Well he's camping in the rainforest (yes, camping!) and that means he's sleeping and he can't sleep in his clothes can he? No. He'll need to change. Surely the BBC realise we need a detailed account of his Amazon adventure...

This is what we should all expect from his Amazon adventure... (Picture: H&M)2. The naked chef

Part of experiencing the Amazon rainforest is having to fend for himself and Beckham will be showing off his tribal cooking skills. Let's just hope he's learnt his skills from the Naked Chef Jamie...

Please tell us Jamie Oliver taught Becks all he knows in the kitchen (Picture: Tumblr/Theginger)3. I'm David Beckham...Get Me In There!

If David can conquer the rainforest, he can conquer anything. What next? Journey to outer space? Swimming with stingrays? David Attenborough's wingman? Or, what we think is most likely, he'll love the natural habitat so much ITV will snare him for the next series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

This is Ant and Dec laughing at Beckham doing a trial - well, it could be (Picture: ITV)4. Those shower moments...

It will totally be the same as in the Aussie outback, right?

Okay, it's not David Beckham in a jungle shower but it is A David.. (Picture: ITV)5. The hair

Everyone knows that aside from his right foot (and Victoria Beckham), David is most famous for his hair. How will he keep it conditioned in the Amazon? Will he take product with him? What about the humidity?

Just look at that hair... (Picture: PA)6. Pumping iron

You don't get a six-pack like this by allowing yourself time off. Think Amazon. Think unbearable heat. Think push-ups. Think sweating. Think... (have we lost you yet?).

Beckahm surely f (Picture: Getty)7. David Beckham on our TV screens for a whole 90 minutes with no football in sight

Becks is the reason most girls happily sat down to watch the football with their boyfriends for years. But now we get to see him sans football for a full hour-and-a-half. Ok, there might be a few shots of trees and animals thrown in too, but we'll take what we can get.

While we quite like this image, there won't be any football watching in this documentary and we can't wait (Picture: Reuters)We should probably mention this stuff too:

Commissioned by Sam Bickley, this 90 minute documentary film is a XIX Production for the BBC and BBC Worldwide, directed by Anthony Mandler.

Speaking of Beckham's adventure, Helen Jackson, Managing Director, Content, BBC Worldwide said: 'This is an unforgettable documentary set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham. Through his eyes, audiences will experience life in the jungle, something so distant from David's life on and off the pitch and in the glare of the world's media.'

And Charlotte Moore - BBC Controller, addsL 'In this special documentary for BBC One, David Beckham embarks on a top secret expedition to the Amazon that will see him encounter the other side of Brazil and journey through the tropical rainforest, a TV first for the global icon.'

Beckham's Amazon adventure, which has a working title of 'The Beckham Documentary', will air on BBC One in the UK this June.

New trailer for Only Fools and Horses sees David Beckham playing the dumb one

In a new trailer released by the BBC, the father-of-four can be seen poking fun at his alleged dense persona as he sits in a cafe with stars of the show - Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst.

Asked by Del Boy why he's wearing a pair of geeky glasses, Beckham replies: "To be honest, I thought that if I was to wear these, no one would recognise me and I could be a little bit incognitive."

Obviously, what the former footballer meant to say was "incognito" but the Cockney brothers fail to correct him on this and instead exchange a few fed up glances and roll their eyes whilst David is completely unaware of his mistake.

Sir David looks his usual wheeler-dealer self in the trailer, which sees him sporting a patterned flat cap, a gold chain and an array of gold rings.

David, meanwhile, looks his usual dapper self in a black coat, which he wears with his collar up and his hair perfectly coiffed into a quiff.

Earlier this week, Sir David revealed that it was actually David's idea to revive the classic comedy for Sport Relief.

He told The Michael McIntyre Show: "He said he had always loved Only Fools And Horses and that it would be great to do something with me and Nick. So then the grapevine started to work as these things do."

The actor also admitted that he didn't think the show would return following the death of it's creator John Sullivan, however, he was happy to sign up after reading the script.

"Once I read the script that they intended to do, and I said yes I would do it, it was so much of Sullivan and so much of Only Fools And Horses the original, that I said, 'Yes, let's do it.'" he explained.

"When I got together with Nick for the first run-through it came back like that. I didn't even have to think about it.

"It's like anything, it's like falling off a log. As soon as I put on the gear and started to look at the script, back it came."

However, it wasn't so straightforward for David - who admitted that he found the experience nerve-wracking.

"The day of filming started off with a slightly sleepless night, going over my script," he told the Radio Times. "The thought of being on set with Nicholas and David was obviously very nerve-racking."

Sport Relief is on BBC One on Friday 21 March. Related articles
