Becks at Twickers; 'Suzie' watch

ENGLAND's No.1 celebrity fan, the truth behind the All Blacks' 2012 loss at Twickenham and another addition to the Franklin-come-Giteau family - welcome to this week's rugby round-up. Becks takes boys to Twickers

They say everyone loves you when you're winning and never have truer words been spoken about England with the nation's No.1 sporting icon taking in the Test action in London.

Football superstar David Beckham was in the stands at Twickenham for England's 35-12 victory over Argentina, the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy star treating his three sons to a night at the rugby.

Wearing their England shirts with pride, the Beckham clan seemed to be enjoying the action with Dad even offering a thumbs-up for the big screen.

England hooker Dylan Hartley said it was a thrill to see Beckham supporting his side.

"I loved it. We were packing down for a scrum and usually you see yourself [on the screens]," Hartley said.

"All players when there's a pause in play look up at the big screen and sometimes you catch yourself and there's Becks - and I was like "how cool's that?".

"I said to [scrum-half] Lee Dickson: "Oi, you see Becks? There's Becks on TV" and he said: "I know!" It was so cool."

Tickets, tickets, anyone got tickets?

While we're at the home of English rugby, it seems demand for this weekend's visit of the All Blacks has never been higher with twin-tickets reportedly selling for up to 1000 pounds on some website exchanges.

Buoyed by back-to-back wins and the memory of last year's magnificent victory over the World Champions, rugby fans are set to part with plenty of their hard-earned to watch what is likely to be the pick of the November action.

The famous stadium looks set to be adorned in plenty of white, too, with jersey sales up by around 10 per cent on last year.

'Suzie' to strike again?

And one more in the lead-up to this weekend's blockbuster, London's Daily Mail has revealed the "inside story" behind the All Blacks' shock 2012 defeat at Twickenham.

Steve Hansen's side were denied an unbeaten 2012 by a breakout performance from England and, if you believed the rumours at the time, a mystery ailment.

Sound familiar? Well, yes. Yes it does. But unlike the legend that is South Africa's "Suzie" from Rugby World Cup 1995, former All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson has confirmed many of her players were violently ill in the lead-up to last year's loss.

"The first I knew about it was when one of the players came knocking on my door at 10pm," Robinson said.

"I got another knock on the door at 10.30. I thought it was the same player, but it was a different one.

"Shortly after that a third player complained of the same symptoms. I knew then we were in trouble. I was up that night treating players until 6am, giving them medication to stop the vomiting and a lot of fluids."

The All Blacks refused to blame the team-wide virus at the time and skipper Richie McCaw again reinforced that this week saying: "If we'd fallen away at the end, you might have said that, but we felt fine. We just struggled to get into the game."

Rugby round-up has it on good authority that anyone looking to stay at the All Blacks' London hotel should not make a reservation under the name "Suzie".

Gits makes Buddy an uncle, again

It hasn't been then greatest of weeks for soon-to-be Sydney resident Buddy Franklin with his behaviour during the Melbourne Cup carnival raising more than a few eyebrows.

But there was some good news for Franklin over the weekend with his sister Bianca giving birth to her second son, Kai.

Buddy's brother-in-law and former Wallabies centre Matt Giteau broke the happy news from Toulon on Twitter, thanking everyone for their kind messages.

NRL stars at World Rugby Classic

Fancy a spot of rugby in Bermuda? The lure of a trip to the Caribbean for a few friendly games has proved too good to resist for former NRL stars Danny Buderus and Brett Finch.

The duo have signed on with the Australia side for the World Rugby Classic in Bermuda, following in the footsteps of Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler who both featured at the event in 2012.

Australia are the defending champions at the tournament and also boast former Wallabies Andrew Walker, Steve Kefu and Garrick Morgan in their squad. The action kicks off this week.
